        The Short Version

        OVERVIEW

Bandit is the Thief's dagger branch and the top single-target damage dealer of all ten second jobs in NiaMeowDB's level 70 benchmark. The price is melee range: you face-tank everything and burn more potions than a ranged Thief.

Level 70 benchmarkBanditGrade among 10 second jobs

        TRADE-OFF

At level 30, NiaMeowDB's sample dagger build does about 18% less damage per minute than a claw build (41,946 against 51,440), and you fight in melee from day one. In return you never buy throwing stars, never pay 7,000 NX for a reset, and your first-job SP is already right for a Bandit.

        Launch facts

        • Founder's Access opened October 6. Grand Launch, free for everyone, is October 21 at 11:00 AM PDT.
        • The level cap is 100. Only 1st and 2nd job exist at launch: no Chief Bandit, no Orbis or El Nath yet.
        • Forgotten Hollow, the new level 39–60 cave, is closed during Founder's Access and will be added later.
        • Nexon plans to show its post-launch roadmap at MapleStory Fest on October 17.
        • Most numbers come from the August closed test data on NiaMeowDB. If the game disagrees, trust the game.

        Creation Choices

        CREATION

Your Thief is already made, Ted, so this page records what's locked in. It's also the checklist if you roll another character.

        • Starting stats are fixed by class. Pick Thief and you start at 4 STR / 5 DEX / 4 INT / 12 LUK (25 AP). AP never resets at job advancement; the only undo is an AP Reset Scroll (7,000 NX).
        • Gender changes your best overall. Dark Avenger is a female-only level 35 overall with +6 LUK and 10 slots, so ten Lesser LUK scrolls take it to +16 LUK. A male Bandit's best is the Blue Sauna Robe at level 30 (+1 all stats, 10 slots, up to +11 LUK). That is a 5 LUK gap for the rest of the game.
        • Your starter weapon: Hand Axe. The Wooden Club has 19 W.ATK to the axe's 17, so you may need an extra hit on early mobs. No harm done: a Razor replaces it at level 5. On a new character, pick the Club.

You don't need the Cash Shop for this route. It never uses an SP Reset Scroll, so the SP plan here is final from level 10. You can have up to 3 characters per account.

        Maple Island

        LV 1–10

Put every AP into LUK, finish all ten Maple Island quests, then advance to Thief at level 10 with 4 STR / 5 DEX / 4 INT / 57 LUK.

        545432

        • Quests: talk to every NPC. Biggs (level 3) gives a Razor or Fruit Knife at random. Pio (level 5) gives The Green Relaxer chair, which you can only get here.
        • Weapon: Wooden Club through level 4, then Razor at level 5 (23 W.ATK, faster). Razor is a dagger, so it carries you into first job. Sid sells one for 500 mesos.
        • Beginner SP: you get exactly 9 SP by level 10. Max Nimble Feet, Three Snails and Recovery at 3 each.
        • Leaving: Shanks sails you to Lith Harbor from level 7 for 300 mesos. The boat is one-way, so turn in every quest first; most players leave around level 8.
        • Advancing: taxis are 90% off while you are a Beginner. Ride to Kerning City and talk to Dark Lord under the Fusion Jazz Bar. There is no stat requirement. Keep your Razor, or switch to the untradeable Beginner's Triangular Zamadar (27 W.ATK, needs 20 LUK) if you have one, and add a shield right away: a Stolen Fence (40 WDEF) costs 2,000 mesos from Silver.

        Thief on a Dagger

        LV 10–30

Fight with a dagger and Double Stab from your first day as a Thief, and finish first job at Double Stab 20 / Nimble Body 15 / Disorder 20 / Dark Sight 6. Double Stab hits twice, from 80% per hit at skill level 1 to 160% at 20, for 8 to 16 MP.

        • Double Stab first: it is your only attack, and each level adds 4% damage.
        • Nimble Body next: +15 Accuracy and +15 Evasion at max, which a melee Thief feels on every mob.
        • Disorder last: level 3 unlocks Dark Sight. At max it cuts one enemy's Attack Power by 25 and WDEF by 5 for 30 seconds, and the cast itself hits for 100%.
        • Spend all 61 SP by 30. Bandit SP can never go back into first-job skills.

Prefer faster travel? Spend levels 23–30 on Disorder 6 and Dark Sight 20 instead; max Dark Sight costs 30 MP and drops its Speed penalty.

Put levels 11–14 into LUK and level 15 into DEX, do the same for 16–19 and 20, then add 1 DEX and 4 LUK per level from 21. Skip the daggers that need STR; you would carry that STR forever. Before Dagger Mastery, one LUK is only about 8% better than one DEX for Double Stab, so this early DEX costs you very little damage.

        Gear

        • Daggers: Field Dagger at 15, Coconut Knife at 20, Forked Dagger at 27, Reef Claw at 30. Prices and stats are in the Dagger list.
        • Shield: start with a Stolen Fence (level 5, 40 WDEF, 2,000 mesos from Silver). Pan Lid (44 WDEF, any class) drops from the Green Mushrooms in the KPQ bonus room. Shield WDEF also raises your chance to Guard, which blocks a hit completely.
        • Armor: Don Hwang in Kerning City sells a LUK version of most Thief armor: +1 LUK pieces at 10 and 15, +2 at 20 and 25, and +3 at 30, including the Dark Guise hat.
        • Gloves: never sold in shops, so craft them with Leatherworking: Black Duo (+1 LUK) at 15, Mithril Mischief (+2 DEX) at 20, Dark Wolfskin (+2 LUK) at 25 and Steel Sylvia (+3 LUK) at 30. Recipes and materials are in Crafting.

        Citizenship, quests and KPQ

Join Kerning City as a citizen at level 12 for 5–25% off in town. Its later grades unlock the Lesser Overall LUK and Lesser Gloves Attack scrolls, both core Bandit upgrades. Grades, dailies and donations are in Citizenship.

Where to train is in Training maps. The Stirge maps in the Kerning Subway are the classic Lucky Seven spots; on a dagger, the mushroom maps are the safer bet.

        Become a Bandit

        LV 30

Advance at 30, put your first Bandit SP into Haste, and keep attacking with Double Stab.

        1. Talk to Dark Lord in Kerning City and accept The Thief's Next Journey.
        2. Bring his letter to the Thief Job Instructor at Construction Site North of Kerning City.
        3. Enter the test area and collect 30 Dark Marbles.
        4. Take The Proof of a Hero back to Dark Lord and choose Bandit.

        What changes at 30

        • New skill book: from here every SP goes into Bandit skills (Dagger Mastery, Savage Blow, Haste, Dagger Booster, Steal, Nimble Recovery).
        • New dagger: Reef Claw (level 30, 25 DEX / 60 LUK, 48 W.ATK, 22,000 mesos from Cutthroat Manny). Cass is the STR version; skip it.
        • New overall: Mr. Wetbottom's quest chain in Sleepywood gives a Sauna Robe at 30 (+1 all stats, 10 slots).

        Dagger Mastery First

        LV 30–37

Put your Bandit SP into Dagger Mastery before Savage Blow. Mastery raises Double Stab's weakest hit, and the weakest hit decides which mobs die in one stab. NiaMeowDB's Training Advisor puts this order at about 4,740 EXP/min at level 39, against about 3,600 for taking Savage Blow first.

Max Mastery also adds 20% Critical Rate and a 20% chance to ignore knockback. One point of Dagger Booster already gives the full two-stage attack speed boost.

        • AP: keep adding 1 DEX and 4 LUK per level: 30 DEX / 157 LUK at 35 and 35 DEX / 177 LUK at 40.
        • Daggers: Halfmoon Zamadar at 35 is crafted at Weaponcrafting 7; its only shop is in El Nath, which is closed at launch. Gephart at 40 is crafted at Weaponcrafting 8. See Crafting for the recipes and leveling cost.
        • Potions: turn in What Shumi Lost at 35 for 30 Blue Potions and 30 Mana Elixirs.

        Savage Blow Takes Over

        LV 38–47

Level Savage Blow from 38 but keep stabbing until it reaches 18 at level 43. At 44 it gains its sixth hit and becomes your main attack.

        44Savage Blow +3Savage Blow 21: six hits
        45–47Savage Blow +9Savage Blow 30 (max)
        • Why wait until 43: low-level Savage Blow has only four or five hits and a longer animation than Double Stab, so max Double Stab with max Mastery out-damages it until then.
        • Why it wins after 44: in NiaMeowDB's level 40 test with a clean Gephart, Savage Blow 21 did about 22% more damage per attack and slightly more per minute than max Double Stab.
        • Keep Double Stab bound: it stays about 23% more MP-efficient, so use it on any mob it still kills in one hit.

At 40, equip a Gephart if you can craft or buy one. Korean Fan (55 W.ATK, needs only 70 LUK) is a strong alternative if one drops.

        Skills, Stats and Gear

        LV 40–70

Max Savage Blow by 47 and Haste by 54, put every AP past your gear requirements into LUK, and upgrade your dagger every 10 levels.

At 70 that gives Dagger Mastery 20, Savage Blow 30, Haste 20, Steal 30, Nimble Recovery 12 and Dagger Booster 9. Maxing all six Bandit skills costs 140 SP but levels 30–70 give 121, so 51 SP is split among three skills:

        AP

Keep adding 1 DEX and 4 LUK per level through level 66, then put all 5 AP into LUK.

        LevelBase DEXBase LUKDagger check

        7061301Kandine: 65 total DEX / 140 LUK (last 4 DEX from gear)

The extra DEX also buys Accuracy, which melee Bandits need: hitting Wraiths (level 48) every time at equal level takes about 101 ACC.

        Armor, shield and gloves

        • Overall: female, Dark Avenger at 35 (+6 LUK, 10 slots, +16 LUK with ten Lesser scrolls from Kerning City citizenship). Male, a scrolled Blue Sauna Robe (+11 LUK), or Black Knucklevest top and pants (+6 LUK combined; tops and bottoms take no LUK scrolls).
        • Shield: Jurgen Wristguard (54 WDEF, 9.7% Guard, +1 DEX) is the pick. Seven Lesser WDEF scrolls take it to 68 WDEF and 12% Guard, and its +1 DEX helps reach Kandine's 65.
        • Gloves: scroll W.ATK, not Critical Rate. Five Lesser W.ATK scrolls add about 5.3% damage at level 70; five crit scrolls add about 1.2%.
        • Scroll grades: Lesser 100%, Intermediate 60%, Greater 10%, Chaos 10% with a 50% chance to destroy the item on failure.
        • STR daggers: they swing one stage faster, but level 70 Thief armor needs 60 DEX anyway, and after spending 65 STR, Golden River ends about 1.3% behind Kandine. Stay on the DEX line.

        Launch Endgame

        LV 70–100

You stay a Bandit all the way to the level 100 cap, because Nexon left 3rd job, Orbis and El Nath out of launch to rework them. The guides stop at 70, so this part is lighter on hard numbers.

        • AP: keep putting everything into LUK. Add DEX only if new gear asks for it.
        • SP: the six Bandit skills need 19 more SP to max than levels 30–70 provide. If levels past 70 keep granting SP to your Bandit book, finish Booster (9 to 20) and Nimble Recovery (12 to 20); that lands around level 77.
        • Gear: Kandine is the highest dagger tier the current guides cover. Fill its 7 slots and keep upgrading armor scrolls.
        • Bosses at launch: Mano, Mushmom, Shade, Zombie Mushmom and Jr. Balrog, plus King Slime inside KPQ. Rotten Mushmom (level 60) lives in Forgotten Hollow and arrives with it.
        • EXP: NiaMeowDB marks levels 50–99 of its EXP table as historical reference only, so expect a slow climb.
        • What's coming: in the August test, Bandit became Chief Bandit at 70 through Arec in El Nath, and its Band of Thieves skill hit up to 6 enemies at 220%, the mobbing tool Bandit lacks today. Nexon is reworking 3rd job, so details may change. Watch the October 17 roadmap for dates.

        • Plan refills. A map close to a potion shop can beat a slightly better map farther away.
        • Use the Training Advisor. Enter your real stats and gear in NiaMeowDB's Character Builder, pick Double Stab or Savage Blow, set hit rate to 100% and filter for kills guaranteed on your weakest roll. Rerun it whenever your dagger or Savage Blow level changes.
        • Parties pay. Party kills add 10% EXP with two members, 20% with three and 30% with four or more.
        • Victoria Island thins out past 60. Its higher mobs (Wild Kargo 62, Tauromacis 70, Taurospear 75) are on timed respawns, so stay on Sleepy Dungeon V, the Wraith maps or The Forest of Evil II until new content opens.

Reach is the average distance of a basic attack. Savage Blow uses its own fixed box (18–95 px in front of you), so reach only matters for basic attacks and Double Stab.

        Crafting

        REFERENCE

Shops never sell gloves, so Leatherworking is the Bandit's profession: it makes a LUK glove with Critical Rate every five levels from 15 to 50. Weaponcrafting covers the two daggers you can't buy, Halfmoon Zamadar at 35 and Gephart at 40. The rest is optional.

        RULE OF THUMB

Keep each profession you use at your level ÷ 5. A recipe's crafting level is its item level ÷ 5, so the level 40 Gephart needs Weaponcrafting 8 and the level 50 gloves need Leatherworking 10. Fall behind and your next upgrade waits on crafting, not on your character.

        • Mischief color matters: only Mithril Mischief gives DEX; the other colors give STR. Its +2 DEX also counts toward dagger requirements.
        • Skip Gold Arbion (Leatherworking 7, level 35): the same +3 LUK as Steel Sylvia with only 2 more WDEF.
        • Other Arcforge scrolls worth making: Hat Accuracy (2), Shield DEF and Shield Accuracy (5), Shoes Speed and Jump (6), Gloves Accuracy (9). Glove attack and overall LUK scrolls aren't craftable; Kerning City citizenship unlocks them.

        How crafting works

        • Unlock: six professions, each taught by an NPC. Every starter quest needs character level 10.
        • Level gate: crafting level N needs character level 5 × N. At the cap the EXP bar stops at 100% and further EXP is thrown away; after you level up, craft once more to move on.
        • EXP per craft: about 20 × the recipe's level, so a Leatherworking 3 recipe gives about 60.
        • Kits and Catalysts: a level 15 helper quest gives a Kit, and a level 25 mastery quest gives a Catalyst, an optional ingredient that changes the finished item's stats. Exact effects aren't published yet.
        • Not a money maker: only 11 of 348 recipes profit at NPC prices. Black Crystal (Arcforge 6, about +800 each) and arrows (+880 to +1,170) are the few exceptions.

        Getting started at level 10

        1. Talk to Silas Irons in Perion: Silas Irons in Need of an Apprentice asks for 20 Stumps, 20 Dark Stumps and 5 Bronze Ore. It teaches Smithing.
        2. Then Mr. Thunder in Need of an Apprentice: smelt 1 Bronze Ingot and 1 Iron Ingot. It teaches Weaponcrafting; daggers are made at the Weaponcrafting Station.
        3. Learn Leatherworking from JM From tha Streetz in Kerning City; you'll be in town for citizenship at 12 anyway.
        4. Learn Tailoring from Francois in Ellinia and turn Animal Fur Bundles into Spool of Thread.
        5. Level Leatherworking to 3 by 15 so Black Duo is ready the day you can wear it.

        • Weaponcrafting: roughly 105,000 mesos in fees to reach 7 and 150,000–165,000 to reach 8, and every recipe sells back for less than it costs. If a friend or guildmate levels it, paying them for a Halfmoon and a Gephart is cheaper.

Fee totals are estimates from the cheapest recipe at each level and the EXP table above.

        Where the materials come from

        • Processed Leather: 5 Leather each, from Pigs and Ribbon Pigs at The Pig Beach or Wild Boars at Land of Wild Boar. Jr. Necki, Ligator and Croco skins can stand in for it.
        • Spool of Thread: Tailoring 1, from Animal Fur Bundles (Wild Boars drop them).
        • Stirge Wing: Stirges in the Kerning Subway (Transfer Area).
        • Dragon Skin and Drake Skull: Drakes at Drake Hunting Ground.
        • Ingots: Smithing, from Bronze, Iron and Mithril Ore. Keep every ore you find from level 1.
        • Processed Cloth: Tailoring, 10 Pig's Ribbons each.
        • Topaz, Emerald and Black Crystal: Arcforge 2 for the gems, Arcforge 6 for Black Crystal, or buy them from other players.

        Kerning City Citizenship

        REFERENCE

Sign up with Roxy at the Kerning City Civic Center at level 12 and stay there. Kerning City is the only town that sells Overall LUK scrolls, and it sells the Gloves Attack scroll too. Those two are the Bandit upgrades citizenship is for.

        KERNING, NOT HENESYS

Henesys is the other citizenship town. It swaps the Overall LUK scroll for STR and DEX versions and the crit-damage potion for a crit-rate one. Both towns sell Gloves Attack, so Henesys gives a Bandit nothing Kerning City lacks.

        How it works

        • Join: talk to Roxy at the Kerning City Civic Center at level 12. The sign-up quest pays about 960 EXP, a few hundred mesos and some Red and Blue Potions.
        • Dailies: take them from the Community Board in front of the Civic Center. Greet each resident once (Alex, Shumi, Nella, Icarus, Jane Doe, Jake, Mr. Pickall), then the Asking After visits repeat daily. Each daily gives 100 contribution at grade 1 and 50 more per grade, up to 550.
        • Weekly donations: turn in a stack of one ETC drop to Roxy. Each pays 500 contribution at grade 1 and 250 more per grade, plus EXP and 20 Blue Potions.
        • Grades: each needs both contribution and a character level, starting at 12 and rising 5 per grade to 57. Grades never drop.
        • Discounts: 5–25% on tagged items in town (buff potions, Return Scrolls, pet food, the taxi) and 5–50% on storage, while Kerning City is your active town.
        • One town at a time: each town keeps its own progress if you switch. The first switch is free; later ones were seen costing 50,000 mesos, and you reportedly have to stay 7 days before moving. A Bandit has no reason to move.

        Shopping list

        • Overall LUK scrolls (grade 7): one per overall slot. Ten on a Dark Avenger or Sauna Robe is +10 LUK for 350,000 mesos, before any discount. Save from your 30s.
        • Gloves Attack scrolls (grade 9): 50,000 per slot. W.ATK on gloves beats crit; see Skills, stats and gear.
        • Resident's Chair (grade 2): 10,000 mesos for 20 HP and 5 MP every 10 seconds while you sit, so you spend fewer potions between pulls.
        • Pharmacy (Dr. Faymus): Warrior, Speed and Dexterity Potions and Return Scrolls at your grade's discount.
        • Skip: Earring Evasion scrolls (scroll earrings for LUK through Arcforge) and Wolbi Throwing Stars (claws only).

        Story quests

        • Jake's Trauma (level 17, grade 2): starts after First Greeting with Jake. Five steps; you need 10 Bubbling's Huge Bubble and 10 Stirge Wing. About 4,600 EXP, 10 Blue Potions, and a random Intermediate or Greater pet-equip Speed or Jump scroll at the end.
        • Jane Doe and Dr. Niora (level 37, grade 6): picks up from Jane Doe's level 23 quests (Stranger's Request and Stranger's Identity). Worn Bandages needs 35 Tablecloth from Jr. Wraiths. The last step, A Truth Finally Known, pays 7,310 EXP, +1 Fame and your choice of an Intermediate Overall Armor scroll. Take LUK (60% success).

        Pace

        • Character level is usually the real gate. Do the Asking After visits every day you play and contribution stays ahead of your level.
        • One community simulation from the test reached grade 10 in about 22 days of dailies and weeklies.
        • If you're short of grade 7 at 42, the weekly donations are the biggest contribution chunk.

        First-job skills you keep using

        • Double Stab: two thrusts, 160% each at max for 16 MP; more damage per MP than Savage Blow. Use it whenever it guarantees the same kill.
        • Nimble Body: +15 Accuracy and +15 Evasion at max.
        • Dark Sight: travel and safety. Max level removes its Speed penalty and costs 30 MP.
        • Disorder: at max it cuts one enemy's Attack Power by 25 and WDEF by 5 for 30 s, and the cast hits for 100%; useful on a single tough mob.

        Steal's buff

+35 Attack Power is worth as much as +70 STR or DEX in the damage formula, about +8.7% damage at level 70. Steal's own hitbox reaches 180 px, farther than any dagger swing.

        Grinding loop

        1. Keep Haste and Dagger Booster up.
        2. When the Steal buff is missing, Steal a fresh mob.
        3. Kill with Savage Blow; use Double Stab when it already one-shots, to save MP.
        4. Let Nimble Recovery proc on its own; don't take extra hits fishing for it.

        Damage, Accuracy and Potions

        REFERENCE

LUK is worth twice as much as STR or DEX on a dagger's top roll, so every AP beyond your gear and Accuracy needs belongs in LUK.

        Dagger damage

        MAX = (1 + (2 × LUK + STR + DEX) / 100 + Attack Power / 50) × W.ATK × Skill %
        MIN = (0.8 + (2 × LUK × Mastery + STR + DEX) / 100 + Attack Power / 50) × W.ATK × Skill %

At level 70, +10 LUK adds about 2.34% to an average Savage Blow, while +10 STR or +10 DEX adds about 1.25%. Before Dagger Mastery the gap is much smaller: for Double Stab, one LUK is only about 8% better than one STR or DEX, and max Mastery widens that to about 88%.

        Accuracy

        BASE ACC = floor((1.2 × DEX + 2 × Level + 0.6 × LUK) × 0.25 + 15)

Each character level adds 0.5 ACC, each DEX 0.3 and each LUK 0.15; max Nimble Body adds 15 on top. A mob above your level shrinks your effective Accuracy before its Avoidability is checked, so a level-up can turn a miss-heavy map into a clean one.

White Potions (1.43 HP per meso) and Blue Potions (0.91 MP per meso) are worse value; buy them only for burst healing.

        Mesos

        • One-hit kills are meso-positive; every extra hit costs MP and lets the mob hit back. That is why Dagger Mastery comes before Savage Blow.
        • Keep ores, leather and ETC drops: crafting opens at level 10, and many quests need them. Check NiaMeowDB's Safe to Sell? page before vendoring.
        • Early weapon drops you can't use sell back for 1,500–2,500 mesos each.
        • Death costs EXP, so carry a Return Scroll and leave before your potions run out.

        Common Mistakes

        REFERENCE

Most Bandit regrets come from spending AP or SP too early.

        1. Adding DEX to job advance. Classic World removed stat requirements for advancing. Add DEX only for gear.
        2. Leaving Maple Island early. The boat is one-way; unfinished island quests are lost.
        3. Leaving first-job SP unspent at 30. Bandit SP can't go back into first-job skills.
        4. Taking Savage Blow before Dagger Mastery. Training Advisor puts the Mastery-first order about 30% ahead in EXP per minute at level 39.
        5. Switching to Savage Blow too early. Below skill level 18 it loses to max Double Stab; switch at 43.
        6. Adding STR for STR daggers. STR exists only for the requirement; LUK still does the damage and Thief armor wants DEX.
        7. Forgetting Double Stab after maxing Savage Blow. It kills the same mobs for less MP.
        8. Choosing maps by mob level. Weaker mobs you always one-hit beat on-level mobs that take two.
        9. Scrolling crit on gloves. W.ATK raises every hit, including the weakest roll that decides guaranteed kills.
        10. Ignoring your shield. Shield WDEF scrolls raise both defense and the chance to fully block a hit.
        11. Joining Henesys for citizenship. Only Kerning City sells Overall LUK scrolls, and switching later costs time and mesos.
